DIY Alternative Wedding Guestbook

I’m wanting to avoid a traditional guestbook because I feel like most people just sign their names and I know I’d never look at it…I came up with this alternative “guestbook”.

It’s a pretty simple idea, just provide cards for guest to write notes and well-wishes. The small cards encourage people to write more than “Congrats!” I made some small topiaries with a line to string them on during the reception.

 How to make the topiaries:

I got a couple of topiary forms from Hobby Lobby for $12 each (and 50% off!)

I also picked up some moss sheeting (small flowers would have been nice too).

Then I just cut the sheeting down and hotglued to the form. It was really easy since the moss had a backing on it to keep it together. I had to cut off some odd pieces here and there and add some to fill in holes but it’s not noticeable.

It makes a HUGE mess so make sure to do it someplace that’s easy to clean up!

I found this frame at TJMaxx and just wrote a little note explaining what to do for our guests.

Then I just made a bunch of cards with coordinating patterns for guests to write on.

And the finished product…DSC04001

Guests really seemed to enjoy it. It helps if you have a few close friends write notes early so those can be hanging when everyone else arrives (so people understand that it’s for cards and not their laundry).

I glued a handful of notes into the cover of our wedding photobook and stuck the rest in an envelope inside.
