Last week we took Baby E’s big brother (his four-legged one) to get a haircut. Since we were out early we stopped by a consignment sale. Being some of the first people there we got a free breakfast from Chick-Fil-A to enjoy while we shopped and a coupon for another free sandwich (score!).
Baby E is in no short supply of toys so we didn’t stay long but we picked up this Fisher-Price Little People Noah’s Ark for $5. I got home and looked it up online – it was $30 at Toys R Us. I love getting practically new toys for cheap!
This isn’t the first time I’ve gotten a good deal on a toy (or clothes).
There are several seasonal consignment sales in Louisville (the Kidstuff Sale and Little Treasures are two of the largest). At past sales I found Baby E a Fisher-Price Silly Town after he fell in love with it in our church nursery. It’s not available anymore but at the time it was around $65 new, I got it for $10. I also got him a Ball Popper (originally $15) for $5 and a Fun Years Workbench (originally $22) for $4.

Total Savings: $108
The key is to know what you’re shopping for and consider if something is really a good deal. I usually don’t buy toys that are more than $10 and clothing needs to be less than $5 (since I can buy new T-shirts and pants from Old Navy for about that much).
Oh try to arrive early and shop quickly so you don’t have to stand in the checkout line forever!
