Happy Birthday to me!

This is my belated birthday present to myself (thanks to my parents, in-laws and grandmother). Even though my true present was having baby boy home (I know, I know…more coming soon…I’m almost done writing his birth story).

It’s an Olympus PEN.

I’ve had a Sony Cybershot DSC W55 for forever. It take good pictures and I liked that I could take it anywhere but it’s had a lot of wear and tear and I needed a higher resolution. So to upgrade I wanted something with a little more control but without the expense of a DSLR.

The PEN is a nice mix of manual controls and automatic settings and even features several “art” settings which are nice to have and avoid some post-processing. It’s super lightweight and able to be customized with additional lenses and flashes. All in all it’s a great camera for someone who’s not a pro but wants a little more.
